Distributing Fahrenheit 911
Maybe Michael Moore should just forget Disney/Miramax and release Fahrenheit 911 under a Creative Commons License and distribute it using Bittorrent. Maybe I’m on another planet.

Stu Says:Wow. That\’s crazy. Just got back from a reading/interview w/Paul Auster, where he spoke of the \”mess\” America is in. He wasn\’t kidding! This is big news considering Moore\’s film is (was?) to be in competition at the Cannes festival later this month. I guess controversy can only help raise the profile of the film (and Moore\’s message), but that\’s not much use if the wider public aren\’t able to actually see it (and not just using Bittorent, though it\’s a nice idea!).

natis Says:There are quite a few things going on here that really make me wish I can find some way to work in London and get my girl over as well. Besides, American web design is boring for the most part.

Matt Says:Moore was interviewed on Newsnight on Wednesday and he managed to contradict himself by sounding suprised that Disney had blocked the film and then letting it slip that he had known about it for months.
\”This Independent article\”:http://news.independent.co.uk/world/americas/story.jsp?story=518901 claims that he knew about the problem a year ago. I guess if it\’s all a publicity stunt, it\’s worked!

John Hurliman Says:You are /definitely/ on another planet. Michael Moore doesn\’t own his movie, the company who funded it (Miramax) does. Miramax went ahead and funded Moore\’s movie even after Eisner was opposed to it, they railroaded the budget in with some loan financing or something. Moore can\’t just say, \”Hey Miramax I\’m going to go give away that movie you poured all your money in to.\” Disney has an established protocol for handing off controversial movies to Miramax, and they can either choose to release it or sell it to another distributor. Disney keeps it\’s politically neutral, religious friendly, family sanitized image, and they make a quick buck off some of the riskier movies. In this case Miramax is waiting for the papers to get signed off from Disney so it can sell it to a third party distributor. Disney/Miramax really screwed up big this time though, all the controversy surrounding the movie is going to cause the price to hike way up.
Not to mention that Moore is adamant about getting this to the masses in time for elections. If it was released only through P2P and the grapevine of the Internet it would never reach the bulk of his target audience.

Rick J Says:Well \”John\” I guess come July 6th, you might re-think your statement \”You are / definitely / on another planet\”. I\’d really like to see this movie even if it is as jaded and squewed as CNN. At least I\’ll be able to find some middle ground and draw some of my own conclusions. It\’s a sad state of affairs.
