Macrumors.com are offering a customised IRC client for updates during the Apple Keynote at WWDC. For those missing the usual live Quicktime stream (a stream is being broadcast after the Keynote ends), it’s the second best option for live information from the event.

After downloading the client, simply type a username and you will be automatically connected to the #macrumors channel. My username is ‘mattj’.

Eek! Mac geeks! Millions of ‘em!

I hope Apple manage something pretty spectacular otherwise there’s going to be a riot. Okay a tasteful one where all the rioters are wearing black turtle-necks but a riot nontheless.

Since there’s no chance of me being able to afford any new hardware for the next year or so I’m most looking forward to the Panther previews. I hope that thing has speed improvements. I think the slowness my biggest complaint with OS X (mind you I should probably fork out for more than 384mb of ram before I complain about that).

Yeah, I’m hoping Panther will run on my iMac 400MHz G3. I need some new hardware too :(

On a 1GHz TiBook G4 with 512 RAM, the Finder of OS X is *really slow*. Slow as in “make tea, look out the window, take the trash out, come back… And the files will still be transferring between directories”.

Okay, maybe not that much. But you know what I mean.

I’m not sure making the Finder Cocoa instead of Carbon now will improve things… Let’s hope.

Mac OS 10.2.6 runs just as well on my PowerMac G4 466Mhz as my PowerMac G4 Dual 1.25Ghz. ;)

As for the whole Carbon/Cocoa Finder speculation… iTunes is the speediest iLife app. Just happens to be Carbon. ;)

Sure you’ve got enough PowerMacs there Tommy?

  6. Tommy says:

You can never have enough PowerMacs. ;)
