About

Who am I?

Originally from Crewe & Nantwich in Cheshire, I graduated in 1999 with a degree in Contemporary Photographic Practice from Northumbria University. Since then I’ve worked at a number of creative / digital design companies in the North East and in 2004, I joined Durham University’s Web Team as a Web Developer. I now work for the School of Applied Social Sciences, doing front-end design and development for a major research project.

I currently live in Gateshead with Annie and a cat called Chris.

What’s this site?

This site takes form of a blog wherein I post regular updates about things I’m interested in. Topics you can expect to see include science and technology, free and open source software, photography, architecture, the environment and cycling. I’ve been blogging for over 10 years so you may want to peruse the archive to get a sense of what I like to think and write about.

What else do I do?

In 2007 I sold my car and decided to travel only by bike and public transport. The North of England has the finest cycleways in the country and  I like to spend my time exploring them. In 2010 Annie and I cycled the Coast & Castles, which is a 400 mile National Cycle Network route from Newcastle to Aberdeen. Here’s a picture of me and the bike I did it on, a Surly Long Haul Trucker
